New research reveals world’s busiest international air route

The world’s top 20 busiest air routes have been revealed in a new report from OAG Analyser. The report looks at the number of flights on every route between February 2017 to February 2018 and 14 of the Top 20 operate to and from destinations in Asia. Two operate within Europe, another two operate within North America, and one between North America and Europe. There is also one route which operates between two destinations in the Middle East.

The world’s busiest route is Kuala Lumpur to Singapore with 30, 537 flights and just over 4m passengers. The most punctual airline on the route was Scoot.

New York LaGuardia to Toronto is the busiest non-Asian route at just under 17,000 flights with Dubai to Kuwait just behind on 15,332 flights. The busiest European route was Dublin to London Healthrow, No. 14 on the list, with 14,390 flights.

The only transcontinental route on the list, at No. 16, was New York John F. Kennedy to London Heathrow with 3,049,370 passengers on 13,888 flights. The four carriers on the route are British Airways, Virgin Atlantic Airways, American Airlines and Delta Air Lines. American Airlines was the most punctual. Boeing 777s and 747s were the most used aircraft on the route.
