Cathay Pacific passengers to earn more frequent flyer miles?
Asia Miles, the reward programme whose airline partners include Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific, is launching new changes from June 22. When flying Cathay Pacific and Cathay Dragon, members will earn air miles based on a combination of cabin class, fare class and distance zone. As a result, the programme claims its members will now earn more miles on 80% of the airlines’ tickets, including to destinations such as Shanghai, Osaka and London.
For Cathay Pacific or Cathay Dragon tickets issued before June 22, 2018 for travel on or after this date, members will be credited with the higher number of Asia Miles, irrespective of the changes.
The airline is also making several other changes. These include:
- increasing the number of available redemption seats by 20% or more.
- redeem all Economy Class flight awards with fewer or the same miles.
- Flight awards on premium cabin classes, especially on longer routes, will require more miles to redeem.
These changes mean that, for example, a first class flight from Hong Kong to London will now earn 11, 640 Asia Miles whereas previously it would have been 8,975 (this is for booking classes F and A). A flight to Singapore in premium economy now earns 2,000 Asia Miles instead of 1,751 (booking class E).
Their updated award chart for business and first class is pictured.
