Singapore Airlines: two tips on how to use your frequent flyer miles

1. How to fly from London to New York for just 50,000 KrisFlyer miles

A lesser-known benefit of Singapore Airlines’ KrisFlyer frequent flyer program is that you can also use KrisFlyer miles for award tickets with Virgin Atlantic. Out of the UK you can redeem KrisFlyer miles on Star Alliance carriers and Virgin Atlantic to numerous destinations in Europe, America, Caribbean, the Middle East, India and Africa.

Redemption tickets start from 50,000 KrisFlyer miles, plus taxes, for a round trip in Economy class and 65,000 miles and 100,000 miles for a round trip in Premium Economy and Upper Class (pictured) respectively on Virgin Atlantic. Some KrisFlyer options for using miles include:

  • Dubai: redemption tickets start from 35,000 miles
  • New York: redemption tickets start from 50,000 miles
  • Barbados: redemption tickets start from 50,000 miles
  • Johannesburg: redemption tickets start from 65,000 miles

If you are a Singapore Airlines PPS Club or Solitaire PPS Club member you are able to take advantage of additional benefits when flying with Virgin Atlantic:

  • Access to Virgin Atlantic Clubhouses.
  • Take one extra bag of up to 23kg.
  • 25% tier bonus on actual miles flown.
  • Priority airport check-in at an Upper Class counter.

Top Tip:  Round trip companion awards are a great way to save on award tickets. However, make redemption bookings well in advance and avoid peak periods at your destination.

2. Experience Thanksgiving Day in Houston, Texas. Book an Economy saver award for only 34,000 miles plus taxes

From October 30, Singapore Airlines will launch its first ever transatlantic service to depart the UK and will operate in addition to the long-standing Manchester-Singapore-Manchester route. The new flights offer an opportunity to make use of your expiring KrisFlyer miles. For example, a return Economy Saver ticket can be redeemed for 34,000 KrisFlyer miles plus taxes.
